THE KARL-SCHNEIDER PRIZE

Sibilla Pavenstedt was honored with a special prize on September 24, 2007 in the Hamburger Deichtorhallen at a special award ceremony: She received the prestigious Karl-Schneider Prize from the Senator of Culture Prof. Dr. Karin von Welck for her achievements in 2005. At the end of the award ceremony, Sibilla Pavenstedt gave thanks with a fashion show staging the scenery of the set designer from the Hamburg Thalia-Theater, Katja Haß – who also received an award.
The jury based its decision on the following reasons: "Sibilla Pavenstedt does not simply want to clothe people, but to underscore facets of a personality. For her, designing garments means: definition, illustration, and communication of the personality. What's on the outside communicates the beauty within; the invisible strength of a strong character becomes visible. Her customers in Hamburg and far away truly value this. For the design of her garments, Sibilla Pavenstedt has a great talent for observation and has a powerful intuitive perceptive ability at her disposal. She precisely records all of her cognitions from past and current events, and they, in turn, flow into her creative process.
She offers custom-made clothing, somewhere between pret-à-porter und haute couture. She greatly values sophisticated materials and special cutting techniques, so that both clothing and accessories are manufactured at the highest level of craftsmanship. The collection consists of individual items that are first produced in her atelier according to the measurements of a customer.
Sibilla Pavenstedt's path to success is paved by discipline and consistency. She studied at the Bremen School of Arts and Fashion Design and two more years in Paris at the École Berçot. As a guest professor at the University of Applied Sciences, she passed on her knowledge and experience as a fashion designer and entrepreneur to students. She conveys fashion design as art and craftsmanship. The Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe (Museum for Applied and Decorative Arts) in Hamburg collects her unique designs in its Department of Fashion and Textile."
The Prize Jury Committee consisted of: Ulli Krieg, Prof. Hans Hansen, Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Hornbostel, Jana Marko, Wilfried Moll, Dr. Babette Peters and Peter Schmidt.
